This piece was composed with the guitar stylings of Joao Gilberto in mind. In-depth discussions with the late, great bassist, Dennis Irwin, regarding the role of the bass against the composite rhythm of the rest of the rhythm section took place after hours at The Village Vanguard on many Monday nights following the band's regular weekly performances during the period when I was writing the arrangement.
On June 2, 2008, this piece was dedicated to the memory of my dear friend Dennis Irwin in a Vanguard Premiere at The Village Vanguard under my baton and featuring Dick Oatts on alto.
